CONJUNCTIVE ADVERBS...what do you know about it??!

Here are some examples of conjunctive adverbs.

  1. also
  2. however
  3. otherwise
  4. consequently
  5. indeed
  6. similarly
  7. likewise
  8. then
  9. furthermore
  10. therefore
  11. hence
  12. nevertheless
  13. thus
  14. nonetheless

  • When a conjunctive adverb connects two indipendent clauses in one sentence, it is preceded by a semicolon and followed by a comma.
  • If a conjunctive adverb is used in any other position in a sentence, it is set off by commas.

Forget to do OR Forget doing?????

forget + to do=to not do an action you should do
forget+doing=to not recall an action

first ex:
Don't forget to meet her at ten this morning.(you should meet her at ten.....).
I'll never forget meeting her for the first time.(I'll never forget when I met her...).

second ex:
I forgot to lock the door(I didn't lock the door because I forgot).
I forgot locking the door.( I locked the door.Then I forgot about it.I don't remember locking the door).

Idiom Definitions for 'AWOL'

AWOL stands for "Absent Without Leave", or "Absent Without Official Leave". Orignially a military term, it is used when someone has gone missing without telling anyone or asking for permission.

Idiom Definitions for 'At death's door.......

If someone looks as if they are at death's door, they look seriously unwell and might actually be dying.

Stop doing OR Stop to do??????

stop + gerung = to finish an activity
stop +infinitive= to pause in order to do smt

ex:

Helen stopped smoking two years ago.(permanently)

Peter stopped to ask the taxi-driver directions to the museum.(for a moment)

If you use it, you 'll see that it's a piece of cake!!!
